According to new product recalls, some car owners in Texas may be operating dangerous vehicles. Hyundai cars are being recalled due to product defects. Officials are also recalling a few older Mazda sport cars that are each considered to be a defective product.
Hyundai has recalled nearly 600,000 automobiles in the United States in an effort to fix parking brake and hood latch warning light issues. The largest of the two related recalls covers over 437,000 Santa Fe Sport and Santa Fe sport utility vehicles from the years of 2013 to 2017. According to authorities, the secondary hood latch features a cable that could corrode and end up failing to latch. This may allow the hood to fly up if the car’s primary latch has not been secured. The second recall involves more than 160,000 Sonata and Genesis models from the years of 2015 to 2016, which feature a defect that might allow them to be driven even if the brake is on.
As for Mazda, the company is recalling over 69,000 RX-8 cars from the years of 2004 to 2008. Officials said these cars have front suspension problems as well as fuel pump pipes that could crack and cause gasoline leaks. In addition, 35,000 RX-8 vehicles from the model year of 2004 have been recalled because drivers may not be able to steer them due to front ball joint socket cracks.
When consumers in Texas purchase motor vehicles, they naturally expect the cars to be safe to operate. Unfortunately, not all cars that are placed on car dealership lots are free of product defects. Consumers who suffer injuries as a result of a defective product have the right to file personal injury claims against the product makers, seeking damages. A damage award in a successfully litigated case may help with addressing medical costs or other defect-related losses.
