Detached trailer causes fatal accident on Interstate 20, kills 1

A trailer that became detached from a pickup truck apparently led to an accident that caused the death of a Texas woman on a recent Wednesday. Police say the fatal accident occurred on Interstate 20 in Mesquite. The accident is reportedly the first fatal crash in Mesquite this year.

A preliminary accident report by the Mesquite Police Department indicates that a pickup truck with a utility trailer attached to it was heading westbound along the highway. Somehow, the trailer dislodged from the truck. The trailer then crossed over the center median and traveled into the eastbound lanes of traffic.

A 61-year-old Kaufman woman, who was traveling east, could not avoid the trailer that smashed head-on into her van. She suffered critical injuries and was rushed to a medical center by helicopter. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries later that day. Reportedly, two passengers in this vehicle were taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The driver and passengers of the truck that lost the trailer were not injured, and the Mesquite Police Department Traffic Division is investigating the accident.

The surviving family members of a person who died in a fatal accident on a Texas roadway as the result of the negligence of another party or parties are entitled to pursue monetary compensation through the judicial system. They may file a wrongful death claim in a civil court, and upon establishing negligence, may be awarded financial relief. Documented claims typically include end-of-life expenses along with other financial and emotional damages.
