Fatal accident claims 2 lives

A woman who was said to be 19 years old recently lost her life in a tragic Texas pedestrian accident, leaving her family to question how such a young woman could be gone so soon. According to police, she was killed while in the process of trying to help a man who had just gotten into an accident. This man also died at the scene. The fatal accident took place along Interstate 20.

At a little before 2 a.m., the woman was riding in a car with a male driver. The driver suddenly struck a guard rail and lost control of the motor vehicle, at which time the car flipped several times and ejected him. The woman apparently rushed to help her ejected driver.

However, another car then entered the area and ended up striking the woman. Both the woman and the man were pronounced deceased at the accident scene. The man and the woman were reportedly 18 and 19, respectively, when they passed away. The driver who allegedly hit the woman fled the accident scene but later contacted authorities and was reportedly cooperating with the police investigation.

The surviving family members of the woman who police said was struck by the second car may choose to file a wrongful death claim against that car’s driver. Competent proof of negligence – for instance, driving too quickly for road conditions — is necessary to establish liability in such a case in Texas. Only then will claims for monetary damages be decided. A monetary award may help to address pain and suffering as well as emotional distress caused by the fatal accident.
