Fatal accident claims lives of 2 siblings and injures parents

Losing loved ones will always cause severe heartache, but when a loved one is killed over the holidays, it may seem even more traumatic. In many cases, such tragedies remove the joyousness of future holidays. This is the fate of a Texas family who recently lost two of their children in a fatal accident.

It was reported that the Haltom City family were out to enjoy the Christmas light spectacle at Texas Motor Speedway on a Monday night before Christmas. While heading home and singing Christmas carols, their vehicle was struck from behind by an SUV. An investigation by Fort Worth police is ongoing.

The parents were both injured, and they were rushed to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Sadly, their 23-year-old son and 19-year-old daughter died on impact. Another 17-year-old son apparently blacked out due to the collision, but there was no report of his hospitalization. The siblings who died had to be extricated from the wreck, and the medical examiner ruled the cause of both their deaths as blunt force trauma. No mention was made of injuries to the driver of the SUV, and no charges were reportedly filed at the time of the crash.

The trauma that this Texas family is experiencing is unfathomable, and money will likely be the last thing on their minds. However, the high costs of hospitalization and funerals and burials may challenge the family’s financial stability. Relief may be available through litigation against the SUV driver if he or she is deemed responsible for the fatal accident. The parents may pursue personal injury claims on their own behalves along with wrongful death claims in relation to the deaths of their children. In doing so, negligence will have to be established by appropriate proof before a civil court will consider documented claims for financial and emotional losses sustained.
