A Texas police chief in Kyle reported that, due to construction work and lane closures, several of his police officers were present and witnessed an accident that caused the death of one person and injured several others. The fatal accident reportedly occurred on SB I-35 shortly after midnight on a recent Friday. The Kyle Police officers started rescue operations while awaiting the arrival of the fire department.
According to an accident report, a pickup truck carrying three passengers was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler. The impact caused the pickup truck to smash into the back of another big rig before catching fire. Two of the passengers were reportedly rescued from the burning wreck and transported to a hospital in the area with serious injuries. A third occupant of the pickup was declared dead at the accident scene.
Further reports indicated that, shortly after this accident, an Austin police officer was involved in another accident in the same area. Reportedly, he had to be extricated from his vehicle and was airlifted to a hospital in a critical condition. However, no other details were available about this crash.
Reportedly, neither of the drivers of the two 18-wheelers suffered injuries. However, the driver of the big rig that struck the pickup truck may be held accountable for the injuries and life lost in this fatal accident. A wrongful death claim (on behalf of the deceased victim’s estate) and personal injury claims (on behalf of injured victims who survived the crash) may be filed in a Texas civil court. If negligence is established by appropriate evidence, the documented claims of the injured victims and the surviving family of the deceased party will be adjudicated.
