Fatal accident in Texas claims life of man, injures woman

A car crash involving a semi-tanker trailer colliding with a pickup claimed the life of a Texas man early in the night of Jan. 1. The fatal accident occurred on Interstate 35 at approximately 8:15 p.m. on that Sunday evening. Officials report that that the apparently-disabled pickup was stopped in or near the outside shoulder of the interstate near Troy, around mile marker 314. While it was sitting there, it was struck in the left rear by the semi-tanker trailer.

The 24-year-old driver of the trailer suffered no injuries. Sadly, the driver of the pickup, a 59-year-old man, was declared dead at the scene. A passenger in the pickup, a 56-year-old woman, was taken to Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple for treatment of her injuries, which were reportedly non-life threatening.

Investigators are doubtlessly working to determine any factors that contributed to the fatal accident. No charges have been filed as of this time, and neither have results of toxicology tests been released, if any were performed.
