Car accidents involving drivers who cross over the center median on Texas highways are all too prevalent. Such a car crash claimed the life of a Houston resident on a recent Tuesday afternoon. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, three vehicles were involved in the collision that occurred on Interstate 10 in the vicinity of the Goodyear plant.
An accident report indicates that a pickup truck was heading west on the interstate when its 21-year-old driver swerved left and drove onto the dividing median. The truck reportedly smashed through the cable barrier and entered the lanes of the eastbound traffic. It slammed head-on into the car of a 71-year-old woman, causing critical injuries.
The driver of the car was airlifted to a hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries later that day. The pickup truck driver was also hospitalized with injuries that were reported not to be life-threatening. Debris from the impact of this collision struck another vehicle, and, although it damaged the car, the occupants suffered no injuries.
The loved ones of the driver who lost her life will be entitled to pursue recovery of damages brought about by the car crash. A wrongful death claim may be filed against the cross-over driver in a Texas civil court, and, once negligence is established to the satisfaction of the court, a monetary judgment could be considered. Along with medical costs for the time leading up to the tragic death and end-of-life expenses, documented claims may include other financial losses, as well as emotional damages, sustained.
