A Texas driver of a pickup truck was recently hospitalized with serious head injuries. The injuries were suffered in a car crash in which his pickup was struck by a vehicle whose driver had lost control of it. According to a crash report, the collision occurred on State Highway 114 in Dallas County during the rush hour of a recent Thursday morning.
Crash investigators say a 40-year-old Irving woman was eastbound on the highway in an SUV when she accidentally struck a car that was traveling in the same direction. This apparently caused her to lose control of her vehicle, and it veered into a ditch on the median. The SUV then went airborne and collided with a westbound pickup truck.
The SUV rolled over, ejecting the driver. She suffered fatal injuries at the accident scene. The pickup truck driver is reportedly expected to survive. Traffic on the westbound lanes was stopped while investigators were working the accident scene for over three hours. A police spokesman said intoxication was not suspected.
The man who suffered head trauma in this Texas car crash may suffer long-term consequences. Medical expenses and physical and emotional damages may be overwhelming. Despite the fact that the driver who appears to have been at fault lost her life in the accident, claims for financial relief may be pursued. The injured victim retains the right to file a personal injury claim against the estate of the deceased driver. A civil court will require proof of negligence to be established before considering the entry of a monetary judgment for documented financial losses.
