Devastating accidents can happen in split seconds. Many motorists have lost their lives on Texas roads due to the distractions of other drivers. Cross-over accidents are often the result of distracted or drunken driving. An 81-year-old man recently suffered critical injuries in such a senseless car crash that occurred on State Highway 29, not far from Georgetown.
According to the Department of Public Safety, a call was received by a 911 operator in the early evening of a recent Thursday. According to preliminary reports, a 30-year-old eastbound driver veered across the center line into the westbound lane of Highway 29. His vehicle reportedly smashed into a westbound vehicle that was occupied by the elderly driver.
The impact of the crash reportedly killed the driver who was traveling in the wrong direction. The driver of the other vehicle was rushed to a hospital for treatment of his injuries. Another westbound driver said he saw the car approaching in the wrong direction and had to travel onto the grass to avoid being hit. The elderly driver was not so lucky and was not able to avoid the collision.
Although the driver who appears to have caused the car crash lost his life, the injured victim retains the right to pursue financial relief by filing a personal injury claim in a Texas civil court. If negligence by the driver who crossed over the center line can be proved, his estate may be held financially responsible. The court may consider documented claims for monetary losses and emotional damages.
