Concrete trucks and cement mixers can be especially dangerous when involved in accidents on local roads and construction sites. There are many reasons for this. One of them is the heavy weight and large size of the vehicles; in a crash, smaller vehicles simply don’t stand a chance. Another is that these vehicles tend to roll over on impact, causing severe injury or wrongful death.
At Ted Lyon Law, we have seen firsthand the serious and often deadly impact of cement truck accidents in Texas. Our Dallas-Fort Worth truck collision lawyers know that these accidents can be life-changing—not just because of the severe injuries and fatalities they cause, but because families struggle so hard to move forward after they occur.
In four decades of work as personal injury and wrongful death attorneys, we have helped many families move forward after truck wrecks have changed their lives. All our attorneys have distinguished themselves and have demonstrated a deep commitment to helping accident victims pursue the full compensation they are entitled to receive.
Factors Involved in Concrete Truck Accidents
A fully-loaded concrete truck can weigh up to 60,000 pounds, including the weight of the wet concrete. The heavy weight can make the concrete truck difficult to maneuver on Texas roads, and more likely to cause an accident. It cannot stop quickly or turn sharply, and quick maneuvers in traffic may lead to rollovers.
But the heavy weight of a cement mixer is not the only factor involved. A thorough investigation often reveals other factors, including:
- Distracted truck drivers
- Defective cement truck parts
- Drivers operating cement trucks in violation of federal regulations
- Failure to follow basic safety regulations or traffic rules
- Drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs
