In the U.S., the Department of Labor ranks waste management as one of the most dangerous jobs in America. Why? Largely because the job requires sanitation workers to come in close contact with garbage trucks, often hopping on and off these large vehicles while they are in motion, or operating them in dense traffic.
And sanitation workers aren’t the only ones at risk. Garbage truck accidents in Dallas often include collisions with smaller vehicles, bicycles, and even pedestrians. These accidents most often result in serious personal injuries or fatalities. At Ted Lyon Law in Dallas and Fort Worth, we represent people who have been seriously injured by sanitation trucks throughout the state. We also represent the surviving family members of people who have been killed, helping them hold the negligent parties accountable for their loss.
Our four decades of work have given us the experience necessary to handle these serious and challenging cases. All our truck collision attorneys have distinguished themselves in the legal profession. We have won multiple awards and are respected by our peers. Even still, the successes that mean the most to us are the ones we have achieved for our clients.
What Causes Garbage Truck Accidents?
Accidents are complicated, and they happen in the blink of an eye. But the true cause is often difficult to detect. Our personal injury law firm conducts in-depth investigations into the facts surrounding your garbage truck-related crash in Dallas. In doing so, we often uncover factors such as:
- Time pressure: Sanitation workers must comply with strict local ordinances that keep them off the roads during certain times of day. As a result, they operate on a tight schedule and often move too quickly to be safe.
- Frequent stops: Garbage trucks make frequent stops to pick up trash, often in tight alleys, in parking lots, or along busy commercial streets. When sanitation workers fail to signal appropriately or keep a proper lookout, they can cause harm.
- Defective truck parts: Equipment failure, including brake failure or steering failure, is often a factor in garbage truck accidents.
- Improper maintenance: We sometimes find that improper maintenance is to blame in truck accident cases. We investigate these cases to discover whether the truck received regular maintenance.
